details.Accountabilities
- Clinical care responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1) Receive, prepare, and provide proper care for patient during
performance of clinical procedure; 2) Verify patient identification
and written orders; 3) Recognize and respond to emergency
situations; 4) Obtain patient history and check for procedural
contradictions; 5) Maintain and operate auxiliary equipment; 6)
Communicate effectively with patient and family; 7) Select and
administer the proper radionuclide/medication by the proper route
and in the appropriate dosage; 8) Prepare proper instrument,
computer, and imaging protocol; 9) Understand and implement -ALARA
measures in performance of clinical duties; 10) Evaluate image
appearance and perform additional views as required; 11) -Process
and evaluate computer generated data;12) Obtain samples for
non-imaging studies; 13) Prepare and administer interventional
pharmacologic agents as directed by protocol; - 14) Perform
imaging, non-imaging, function studies, and therapeutic exams; and
15) Ensure physical safety of patient. 50%
- Radiopharmaceutical responsibilities include, but are not
limited to: 1) Follows correct procedures for receipt and return of
radioactive materials; 2) Understands and implements ALARA measures
while performing radio pharmacy duties; 3) Maintains accurate
records of doses distributed to patients; 4) Accurately labels and
stores radioactive materials in appropriate areas; 5) Posts
appropriate signage; 6) Performs quality control on
radiopharmaceuticals as necessary; 7) Follows directions for proper
radionuclide preparations; 8) Properly documents receipt and
disposal of short half lived and long half lived radionuclides; 9)
Prepare and dispense diagnostic and therapeutic
radiopharmaceuticals; and 10) Maintains strict sterile procedures
when preparing human biological specimens radionuclides, or cold
compounds. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 10%
- Archiving accountabilities include, but are not limited to: 1)
Maintain accurate records pertaining to exam performed; 2) Operates
the PACS system properly and verifies study prior to archiving; 3)
Properly places exams on optical discs for long term storage; and
4) Archives accurate radio pharmacy information on patient dose
ticket and in appropriate logbook. Administrative accountabilities
include, but are not limited to: 1) Acquires requisition and checks
for appropriate clinical information, date, and verifies account
number and type; 2) Charges procedure/supplies in compliance with
governing regulations; 3) Reports equipment problems; and 4)
Obtains list of outstanding charges, investigates, and explains
reason for charges listed as outstanding. - - 10%
- Environmental accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
1) Maintain a neat, clean, organized work environment; 2) Stock
work area with linens/supplies as needed; 3) Dispose of soiled
linens , used supplies, radioactive materials, and bio-hazardous
materials; and 4) Maintains proper signage with regards to
radioactive regulations. -Instrumentation accountabilities include,
but are not limited to: 1) Perform and evaluate quality on all
instrumentation; 2) Determine operational status and timely
calibration of all survey instruments; 3) Perform and evaluate dose
calibrator constancy test; and 4) Record all daily QC checks in
their appropriate logbooks. - 10%
- Radiation safety accountabilities include, but not limited to:
1) Proper storage of personal monitoring devices; 2) Effective use
of proper procedures for managing and containment of a radioactive
spill; 3) Instruct patient, family members, and other healthcare
providers of the proper radiation safety measures to be taken after
the administration of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals; 4) Follow
the departmental and regulatory policies on recordable events and
misadministrations; 5) Properly dispose of or store radioactive
materials and waste; and 6) Ensure all radioactive materials
sources are to be locked in the hotlab if the department is left
devoid of specific nuclear medicine personnel.10%
- Proctorship responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1) Instruct students in methodology of nuclear medicine procedures
and -principles of the science of nuclear medicine technology; 2)
Closely supervise activity of students; 3) Evaluate/document
student progress; 4) Communicate with clinical instructors or
department heads as necessary; 5) Mentor newly hired nuclear
medicine technologists; 6) Evaluate new hires on equipment
orientation; and 7) Report any deficiencies in education or
comprehension. 10%Minimum RequirementsAssociate's Degree - Graduate
of accredited nuclear medicine technology schoolRequired
Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
- Registered in Nuclear Medicine Technology - ARRT (N) or
Certified Nuclear Medicine Tech (CNMT) through the Nuclear Medicine
Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) . -
