patients.Job SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and dedicated CT
Technologist to join our team on a weekend schedule. As a CT
Technologist, you will be responsible for performing procedures in
accordance with departmental protocols and standards, operating CT
scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.
This includes scanner, post-processing stations/programs, IV
contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport,
and patient monitoring equipment.Key Responsibilities
- Verify patient orders, referring and questioning them to the
Radiologist as necessary, and contacting the ordering provider when
discrepancies arise.
- Properly identify patients using two identifiers and assist
them during procedures, providing a clear explanation of the
process and documenting patient information on relevant
worksheets.
- Conduct thorough medical histories, reviewing in-patients, ER,
and outpatients EMRs to gather pertinent clinical information,
recording medical history on requisitions, and correlating test
results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.
- Take responsibility for the exam from start to completion,
ensuring accurate and timely results.
- Prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental
protocols, recording contrast type and amount as requested.
- Assess the technical quality of images, consulting with a
Radiologist if necessary, and recognizing abnormal anatomy,
processing additional images, and measurements as instructed.
- Provide basic patient care, informing nursing personnel of any
changes in the patient's condition, initiating life support
measures when necessary, and assisting in medical emergencies.
- Operate CT scanners and assist Radiologists/PA during invasive
procedures, practicing proper sterile technique, and performing all
invasive procedures in accordance with bloodborne pathogens,
isolation, and infection control policies.
- Obtain medication or contrast material as directed for
administration by a licensed practitioner.
- Practice radiation safety principles for self, employees,
patients, and family members, following radiation safety
standards.
- Report malfunctioning equipment to the department
director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology
engineer.
- Maintain knowledge and skills required to work safely in an
environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne
pathogens and infectious disease.
- Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures, attending all
in-service classes and completing required safety modules.
- Work accurately and efficiently in crisis and emergency
situations, rotating shifts as required, including call-back,
holidays, and weekends, adhering to the Atrium Health attendance
policy.
- Operate the radiology computer system, including entering
orders and charging procedures/supplies, documenting contrast
administration in the MAR.
- Keep work areas neat and organized, completely stocked, and
clean, promoting a clean work environment.
- Assist other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when
performing exams or services in conjunction with a CT scan.Physical
DemandsThis role requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in
lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies, occasional
standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation, and
frequent stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling in
the daily operation of the CT department. You may be exposed to
various physical conditions throughout the day, such as walking on
hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and being near moving equipment.
Required to use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to
ionizing radiation.Education and CertificationA graduate of an
accredited two-year AMA program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine
Technology is required, along with ARRT certification in Radiology,
or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, and advanced registry from the ARRT
in CT scanning within one year of hire, in addition to current CPR
certification.Estimated Salary Range$65,000 - $85,000 per year,
depending on experience.
