Job SummaryAs a Diagnostic Imaging Specialist at Atrium Health, you will coordinate ultrasound exams with nursing units, radiologists, and physicians. Your primary responsibility will be to perform ultrasound exams in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, operating ultrasound and associated equipment with proficiency.Key Responsibilities

• Review physicians' instructions on requisition and consult with radiologists prior to performing procedures.
• Correlate prior exams, applicable test results, and lab data pertinent to the exam being performed.
• Verify patient identity by checking ID armband and validating proof of identity.
• Review patients' medical and clinical history and document on requisition as pertinent to the exam.
• Obtain medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse.
• Perform basic patient care functions and inform the appropriate nursing team of any changes in the patient's condition.
• Evaluate the technical quality of the exam and recognize imaging abnormalities, performing additional imaging as instructed.
• Assist radiologists in performing invasive procedures.RequirementsThis position requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies up to 50 pounds. It also requires frequent walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting. The ability to read and understand patient orders and technical materials is essential, as is motor coordination to operate heavy and delicate equipment. Intact senses of sight and hearing are also necessary.Education, Experience, and CertificationsA High School Diploma or GED is required, and successful completion of an Ultrasound Training Program is preferred. Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or registry eligibility is also required, as is BLS per policy guidelines.
